Sustainable Food For A Sustainable Future

To celebrate ‘World Food Day’ Sustainability Tribe in association with Novotel World Trade Center Dubai, hosted a community awareness event about ‘Sustainable Food’ on Friday, 18th October. The event was held at the hotel and was the October edition of Sustainability Tribe’s monthly social awareness campaigns. The aim of this event was to make UAE residents aware of different aspects of food and its impact on the environment, society as well as human health and how the younger generations will pave the future for sustainability in the UAE.

The event started with Amruta Kshemkalyani founder of Sustainability Tribe and professional sustainability advisor who shared her knowledge on how consumers can increase demand of sustainable food. She explained how we need to consider the environmental, economic, social as well as cultural aspects of food production. She focused on how residents can find the right food ingredients; based on the region we are located. Amruta shared various tips for sustainable living with the guests like reducing food waste, having a more plant based diet, reusing food waste for beauty care and much more. The Sustainability Tribe also set-up a market-place by inviting brands like C&H, The Eco Loop and Rootz Organics who supported the cause by showcasing their sustainable, bio-degradable and organic products to the guests.

After the insightful talk, the event was followed by an entertaining kids workshop on ‘Zero Waste Food’. The kids put on their chef hats & gloves, as they followed the lead of Vinay Sadanand, the Sous Chef at Novotel World Trade Centre who was overwhelmed with joy to see the adorable and enthusiastic faces of the children. Chef guided our young culinary masters from start to finish as their parents captured these exciting moments on camera. The kids enjoyed making plant- based sandwiches that included healthy and delicious ingredients like quinoa, cucumber and Feta cheese. The most memorable moment was when an 8 year old boy innocently shouted “I love salad!” at the end of the workshop which even took his parents by surprise. Sustainability Tribe and the hotel awarded the children with digital certificates for participating in the workshop and hence minimized the use of paper to further drive the sustainability concept. The kids then hurried to the photo booth where they took some lovely photos with stylish props to end the day in sustainable smiles.
